MDD treatment &
TRINTELLIX® (vortioxetine)

TRINTELLIX® (vortioxetine) is a prescription medicine used in adults to treat a certain type of depression called Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). TRINTELLIX has not been shown to be safe and effective for use in children.

TRINTELLIX has been proven to effectively treat the overall symptoms of MDD in adults.

TRINTELLIX is a prescription medicine used in adults to treat a certain type of depression called Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) that has helped reduce the multiple symptoms of MDD based on an overall score on a standardized depression rating scale in multiple 6-8 week studies and two maintenance studies vs. sugar pill. Individual results may vary. TRINTELLIX has not been shown to be safe and effective for use in children.

The most common side effects of TRINTELLIX in short-term studies were nausea, constipation, and vomiting. Nausea was usually considered to be mild or moderate, and its frequency was dose-related. Nausea generally occurred in the first week and became less frequent over time, usually lasting for about 2 weeks. Nausea may continue in some people. Before starting treatment, talk to your healthcare professional about the risks and benefits of TRINTELLIX. Make sure to discuss all the ways in which you may be dealing with your MDD.

See below for Important Safety Information, including Boxed WARNING for Suicidal Thoughts and Actions.

TRINTELLIX has been studied in over 3,300 adults with MDD between the ages of 18 and 88.

Over 1 million patients have been prescribed TRINTELLIX in the United States.

TRINTELLIX started offering relief from depression symptoms as early as week 2 and lasted long-term.

In short-term studies (6-8 weeks) based on a standardized depression rating scale, the therapeutic effect of TRINTELLIX was generally seen starting at week 2, with full effect generally not seen until week 4, or later. This makes it very important to follow your treatment plan, as directed by your healthcare professional. Individual results may vary.

MDD patients taking TRINTELLIX showed improvement in processing speed, an important part of cognitive function that may be impaired by MDD.

In clinical studies of patients experiencing a major depressive episode, TRINTELLIX helped improve processing speed, which is how quickly a person can accurately process information. Improvement was evaluated based on a standardized neuropsychological test vs sugar pill. In these studies, the common side effects were headaches, nausea, and diarrhea.

The effect of TRINTELLIX on processing speed may reflect improvement in depression. Studies have not been conducted to compare the effect of TRINTELLIX vs other antidepressants on processing speed.

Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a common type of antidepressant used to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) by enhancing the activity of serotonin in specific pathways of the brain.

The mechanism of the antidepressant effect of TRINTELLIX is not fully understood. However, the antidepressant effect of both TRINTELLIX and SSRIs is thought to be related to their enhancement of serotonin activity in the central nervous system. Experts believe that MDD results when certain chemicals in the brain are out of balance. These chemicals, called neurotransmitters, send messages from one brain cell to another by acting at specific receptors. The function and effect of TRINTELLIX is believed to be related to the inhibition of serotonin reuptake. In addition, TRINTELLIX blocks the activities of certain receptors while enhancing that of others. The contribution of these functions to TRINTELLIX's antidepressant effect has not been established.
